Deep Space 9<\/b>, originally known as\u00a0Terok Nor<\/b>, was one of the most\u00a0historically<\/a>, politically, and strategically important\u00a0space stations<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0Alpha Quadrant<\/a>\u00a0during the latter half of the\u00a024th century<\/a>. The space station was constructed by\u00a0Bajoran<\/a>\u00a0slave<\/a>\u00a0labor overseen by the\u00a0Cardassians<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0orbit<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Bajor<\/a>\u00a0during their\u00a0occupation of the planet<\/a>. Under\u00a0Federation<\/a>\u00a0administration following the Cardassian withdrawal, the station was relocated into the\u00a0Bajoran system<\/a>‘s\u00a0Denorios belt<\/a>. There DS9 became a vital commercial port and defensive\u00a0outpost<\/a>\u00a0due to its location near the mouth of the\u00a0Bajoran wormhole<\/a>.
